VIDEO PRODUCTION UNIT AWARDS

The STAR Awards recognize excellence in government programming in California and Nevada. The awards are held annually at the SCAN NATOA (National Association of Telecommunications Officers and Advisors) Spring Conference.


T
he Long Beach Fire Department Video Unit won both 1st and 2nd places in the STAR Video Awards Promotional Category, competing against several large city video departments including Los Angeles and San Francisco. First place was the LBFD Lifeguards Jr. Guards production Long Beach Jr. Guards - Future Lifesavers(co-produced by Marine Safety Sergeant Alan Powder). Second place was The Long Beach Way (opening video for The Annual Meritorious Awards Ceremony).

The LBFD Video Unit has also competed in the National NATOA Awards Competition. They took 1st Place Programming Awards in Public Safety, Public Service, and Profile of a City/County Department in past years.

Since it's inception in 1987, this unit has become a vital piece of The Long Beach Fire Department's internal and external educational effort by progressively being on the cutting edge of the accelerating field of graphic communications technology. On February 25, 2003 Mayor Beverly O'Neill and Chief Harbour honored the Long Beach Fire Department Video Production Unit with a Unit Citation.
